Obituary of Louise Dwyer

On Sunday, October 22, 2017, Louise (Luisa) Bruna Dwyer (nee Sartor, born 7/5/1929)
passed away after a brief illness at the age of 88. Her passing followed by several months
the loss of her late husband, Francis (Bud) Dwyer, a US Navy veteran who also passed on
at age 88 in June of this year.

Louise was a Solvay girl at heart even though she and her family later moved to
Liverpool. After graduation from Solvay High School in 1947, she trained as a maternity
nurse and worked at St. Mary’s hospital in Syracuse. Soon after in 1950, she married Bud
Dwyer whom she knew from Solvay High School. After graduation Bud got a job at
Solvay Process and a year later went into the US Navy. Together they raised a
family of three children, Sue Ann, Donald and Dennis. After they moved to Liverpool
she also helped raise her sister Norma’s three children, Michael, Bill and Linda, who
lived down the street while both Norma and Don worked. Even though their address had
changed, they continued to embrace their Solvay roots and life-long friends.

Louise remained an integral part of St. Cecilia’s Church, attending mass there and
singing in their funeral choir. Louise loved to sing. She also had her gang of water
aerobics friends at the Solvay Youth Center and the Liverpool YMCA for many years.
They were social members of the famous Tyrol Club in Solvay and enjoyed the Tyrol
club friends and polenta dinners. In August 2017 she and her sister Norma attended
Louise’s high school reunion lunch with 15 classmates from her class of 1947.

As her children were growing up, Louise and Bud became entrepreneurs, starting an
evening janitorial businesses which provided services to local businesses as well as work
opportunities for family members and employees. They ran Dwyer Cleaning Service well
beyond Bud’s retirement from Solvay Process. In recent years, Louise was slowed down
by age but she remained sharp of mind, quick of wit and with a great sense of humor. She
remained in communication with her cousins in Italy, her family in the Syracuse area and
her children and grandchildren spread throughout the country. She was a loving and
thoughtful sister, mother, grandmother and aunt and had a special affection for her
“grand-dog, “Seven”.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann Bryson in Virginia and sons Donald in
Thailand and Dennis (Chris Tarolli) in Geddes, as well as sisters Norma Goodman
(Donald) of Baldwinsville and Joanne Picciott (Robert) of Camillus and brother in-law
Bill Crouse. She was pre-deceased by Francis, her late husband of 67 years, parents
Linda and Martino Sartor and her middle younger sister Helen Crouse. She also is
survived by grandsons Erich and John Woodrum and Ryan Dwyer and granddaughter
Annabel Bryson as well as many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.

The funeral mass was held at St. Cecilia's Church, Solvay, New York on October 30,
2017. The Rite of Committal and burial followed at Onondaga County Veterans
Cemetery.
