The Importance of Saying Good-Bye

If a loved one is dying, most adults aren’t sure what they should talk about with that person. Ironically, most people that are dying and know it don’t expect much more than some reassurance, love and kind words. It is very important that you say goodbye and there are certain things to keep in view while doing so:

  • Don’t wait till the last moment - It’s very difficult to say goodbye, but people that put off meaningful conversations tend to regret it the most once their loved one is gone. If a person is ailing, it isn’t possible to predict exactly when he/she will take their final breath. If you wait too long, you risk not saying the things you need to say and hear what they want to say too.

  • It’s important that you let go - When the end is nearing; most people realize they are dying, especially when they see that everyone around them is tight lipped about talking about the impending death. This stresses the person and makes them restless. You need to talk to your loved one and bid them goodbye; in a way it’s a relief for them and for you as well.

  • Peace of mind- You don’t need to discuss death directly with them; but most dying people speak in a symbolic manner which indicates that they are preparing for change or for a new journey. When you say goodbye that indicates to them they don’t need to be scared or apprehensive about what lies ahead and gives them some solace.
